Start of the season
As the first week of practice draws to a close, I am truely excited about the possibilities for the upcoming season. We had more coaches at the training class this season than I have seen in a long time. That tells me that they too are looking forward to a great season and are dedicated to making it so. That same day, there was a referee class that was well attended so each season our referee staff continues to grow. I spoke to many of the coaches at their practices and the vast majority had only 1 or 2 players not at practice so the players must be excited too. On Wednesday night, there was a parent orientation at Allen's Creek Park that was well attended by parents, coaches, and players. At the meeting we discussed where the players would be playing, where to find the schedules, allowed some of the players to meet their coaches and discussed the behavior expected of the parents and other visitors to the games. In a nutshell, Players play, Coaches coach, and Parents cheer. Good sportsmanship does not stop with the players but extends to all of us. We will conduct ourselves in a positive manner, be respectful of each other and remember the reason for the games is the players. I look forward to seeing everyone on the field and working together to make this the best season ever. |

Practice and Games in Hot Weather
The recent and extensive heat wave has heightened the concern over heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and hydration. Below is the link to the United State Soccer Federation issued Heat and Hydration Guideline that outlines best practices as it relates to heat related illness and hydration. Although these are guidelines and suggestions, we stress coaches, managers, and parents take a common sense approach to the protection of the players as it relates to heat illnesses and other health issues. U14 and U16/19 Teams Update
This season, after much feedback, the U14 will be a seperate Division from U16/19. Here is the way it will work. There will be 2 teams in each division, a total of 4 teams, with each team having its own asigned coach. On the odd numbered weeks the teams will play their games as rostered. On the even weeks, the team will be scambled in order to allow for some variety. Why are we doing it this way? 1)Feedback was given that combining u14/16/19 into one division was too large of an age spread, 2)This is the best way to allow everyone who signed up to play, and 3)This seems to be the best way to have structure for practices and flexibility so that the palyers can enjoy game day. |
